Cleaned Up Spam
I went through the database and deleted as many spam accounts and reviews that I could find. I believe that I got most of them, but if you find any more, please contact me.
I will also install a new script that should cut down on the number of spam accounts.
Additionally, all new fanfics must be approved by the admins before they will be publicly posted. We will only be looking to see if the submissions are spam; no other validation will be done. Hopefully that reduces the amount of spam stories that appear on the archive.
I have also upgraded the archive script to the latest version. If you encounter any problems, please let me know.

Updating Fics Fixed
We seem to have fixed the ability to add a new series, add new chapters, and add co-authors to stories. I've tested all these functions and they all are working for me. I believe that is all the errors and issues people were having with the site.
But please, if you still encounter errors anywhere on the site, forward them to us as Jackie instructed in the previous news post and we will get them fixed.
I'm sorry about all the errors, everyone! But hopefully we're back in working order now.

Problems Registering and Updating Fics
There was a problem with registering as a new member - specifically, the captcha image/security code wasn't showing up. Hopefully, this issue has been corrected. If you are still having problems, please let us know by clicking "Contact Us" at the bottom of the page.
There still may be a problem with updating fanfics. If you get an error, please e-mail us using the contact form at the bottom of the page. In the message, include your username, a copy of the error message (please cut and paste it), a link to your story (if available), and a description of what you were trying to do (e.g., edit a chapter, add a chapter, delete a chapter, add a new story). This will help us try to figure out the problem.
Updated fics are also apparently not showing up under "Most Recent" or on the index page. We're not sure why this is happening - still looking into it :(

Site Restored
Due to an attack on the server on which sheppardweir.com is hosted, the entire site had to be restored from a backup from last week. The security holes which allowed this breech have been patched up through script upgrades, which is the good news. The bad news is, we lost some fanfic uploads that had put the archive at over 1000 fics. :(
So please, upload your fanfic again so we can hit that milestone for a second time! :)
Sorry about all this! But please comment if you notice anything broken in the archive or on sheppardweir.com in general so we can fix it right away.
Have a happy Sparky day. :D

Site Layouts/Skins
The original layout appears to be working now, so you can switch back to it if you'd like. It is called "BrownGreen." If you encounter any problems with the layout, please let us know by email or in a comment to this post!
Additionally, we added another skin added called "RedBlack." Noelle and I are working on customizing it so that it's more John/Elizabeth-ish. As Noelle mentioned in the previous news post, we're also looking into adding other layouts and color schemes since some of you have asked for them. :)
Again, if you have any problems with either the "BrownGreen" or the "RedBlack" layouts, please let us know.

Site Update
Hi everyone! Due to some pretty severe spambot abuse issues, we had to temporarily shut off access to the site while upgrading the eFiction script. You'll notice a LOT of changes, as the newer version is very different.
Right now the skin is a default skin with the script. We will be working on integrating the old layout (or perhaps a new one?) so be on the lookout for that in the future. If you are still seeing the old skin right now (the red/orange one), please make sure to go into your profile and change your skin to Zenlike, because some of the links *will not work* with the old layout, and you won't be able to read stories! To change your skin, go to Account Info, Edit Preferences, and select Zenlike under Skin, and hit submit.
If any other bugs, dead links, etc are noticed, please leave a comment to this entry so we can be sure to attend to that. Upgrading the script was a pretty big change, but it's gone smoother than anticipated so there really shouldn't be much of a problem. However, we want to catch any issues as quickly as possible.
Thanks so much!

Server Problems - May Need to Re-Upload Fics or Re-register
There was apparently an issue with the server that this site is hosted on, so we are using a backup from January 28, 2008. Unfortunately, every new member who registered, every new fanfic uploaded, and every update to fanfics after that date have been lost.
Please re-register if you joined after January 28, 2008. You will also need to re-upload your fics if you updated or added them after January 28, 2008.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience!

Beta Reminder
We'd like to remind everyone that though we do not require fanfics to be beta-read before they are posted here, we do strongly suggest that fics be checked for spelling and grammar beforehand. We will remove fanfics from the archive for being unreadable - mostly if they are formatted improperly or if they have noticeably severe grammar problems (such as lack of capitalization, lack of paragraphs, lack of punctuation, etc.) When we remove fanfics, we will notify you of the reason for their removal.
If you're looking for a beta reader, please see the Beta Readers members list. These are members who have volunteered to beta read fics. You can also volunteer to be a beta reader for other people by editing your account profile. Beta readers should have a good grasp of the written English language. Please note that they are not just pre-readers - they actively make suggestions and corrections on fanfics to help improve the quality of those fics.
All fanfic writers, no matter how good they are (or how good they think they are :)), should have a beta reader. It's a good idea to, at the very least, run your fanfic through a spellcheck program (like Word or Word Perfect) before posting it.

Upgraded to eFiction 2.0.6
Command Dynamics has been upgraded to eFiction 2.0.6! You'll see a bunch of improved or new features, such as expanded member profile options; a random story block on the front page; the brand new Challenges area where you can submit or respond to John/Elizabeth fic challenges; and a modified way of adding and managing fanfics. Please take a look around and try out some features! If you encounter any problems with the site, please feel free to contact us.
