Coin Too Dear

"He gave up his life for you."

Beth snorted. "God, Mother, do you know how melodramatic that sounds?"

"Actually, I do. But it doesn't change the fact that he did. In death, he bought all of Atlantis a measure of safety we'd never know otherwise."

Beth adopted a scowl that seemed only the teen years produced, forgotten once one reached the age of 20. Her mother, ever the diplomat, didn't see, the way she didn't see so many expressions that acknowledging would have hindered progress.

"I'd still rather he was here," she muttered.

Her mother sighed. "You're not alone, there."
